Flash Toolbar - An easy to use tool

Flash toolbar image

<Install Free Trial Version>  <Buy Now>

The flash toolbar is designed to make it simple to insert movies, change movie settings and to avoid common problems that often occur when presenting flash movies. For example, movies not starting from the beginning. To correct this, the toolbar automatically checks and rewinds all flash movies during a presentation.

Importantly, the people viewing your presentations with embedded Flash files do NOT need to have Flash Toolbar in order to see the animation.

This software has been professionally developed by the same programmers who created the presentation and communication software used by some of the world's leading companies. Working with companies ranging in size from 1,000 to 150,000 employees spread across the globe, we have been able to develop rigorously tested, secure and user friendly software solutions. This makes this software the ideal choice for both individuals and corporations.

In addition, this software has been digitally signed (with a third party commercial signature) to ensure that it is Spyware and virus-free, and can also be used with the Microsoft Office security setting set at maximum.

This tool is compatible with Windows running PowerPoint: 2000, XP and 2003.

Basic overview of the tools within the Flash Toolbar

  Insert flash movie
Inserts a flash movie with a single click and allows you to set any 'insert' option, e.g. auto-play, embed movie, background colour, etc.

Loop flash movie  /    Un-loop flash movie
Click once on the icon and it will change the default play setting of the flash movie to play once or play continuously.

Set flash movie to play automatically  /    Set flash movie to manual play
Click once on the icon and it will change the default play setting of the flash movie, either to play as soon as the slide is displayed during a presentation, or to wait until the user clicks on the movie.

Create a static image slide of the flash movie slide (for print or email)
Allows you to convert the flash movie into a series of still images that can be printed or emailed.

Rewind all flash movies within the presentation
Click once on the icon and the tool will loop through the presentation slide-by-slide, checking for flash movies, and then rewind them all to the beginning.

  Movie settings
Click once on the icon and it will display all the flash movie settings.

  Remove flash movies and macros
Click once on the icon and the tool will loop through the presentation slide-by-slide checking for flash movies and macros, it will then remove both. This may be required if you intend to email the presentation.

  Automatic Play-Back
Once the Flash Toolbar has been installed, it will automatically watch all presentations to see if flash has been used. If so, and the flash movie has not been correctly rewound, it will automatically rewind the flash movie. This corrects a common  problem/limitation of a flash movie not rewinding to the beginning during a presentation, but starting from the point at which it was last stopped.

Full details of the Flash Toolbars tools

  Insert flash
When the tool icon is clicked, a standard Microsoft dialogue box appears, allowing you to select a movie.

Once a movie has been selected, the Insert Movie Tool's settings dialogue box appears. The default options have been pre-selected so that you can simply click 'OK'. However, if you wish, you can review or change any of the available settings. (All settings are shown below.)

Loop flash movie  /    Un-loop flash movie

This tool allows you to select a flash movie and change the play setting of the movie to stop playing once it has played, or to play continuously in a loop.

To aid usability, the user can use this tool by selecting an individual movie or by simply selecting complete slides. The latter is often required when a movie is hidden under other presentation objects or is part of a group.

Please note: the tool will always set the play options to loop or un-loop, but not all movies have been built in such a way as to allow them to loop, e.g., they may have a in-built command to hold on to the second to last frame, and as such, will never reach the end of the movie.

Set flash movie to play automatically  /    Set flash movie to manual play

Click once on the icon and it will change the default play setting of the flash movie to play as soon as the slide is displayed during a presentation or to wait until it is clicked on.

To aid usability, the user can use this tool by selecting an individual movie or by simply selecting complete slides. The latter is often required when a movie is hidden under other presentation objects or is part of a group.

Please note: the tool will always set the play options to automatic, but not all movies have been built in such a way as to allow them to play this way, e.g., they might have an in-built command to hold on to the first screen until the user clicks a button within the movie.

Create a static image slide of the flash movie slide (for print or email)

Allows you to convert the flash movie into a series of still images that can be printed or emailed. This tool allows the user to select a slide which contains a flash movie and to create a single slide or a range of slides, where the original slide has been duplicated and the flash movie has been replaced with a static image (jpeg). The user can then choose to make a single image, or specify a set frame number, or give a timed delay, or to ask that the movie is spread over a number of slides, or to manually play the movie and hit the 'Ctrl' to create a static duplicate at that position. (All settings shown below.)

To aid usability, the user can use this tool by selecting an individual movie or by simply selecting complete slides. The latter is often required when a movie is hidden under other presentation objects or is part of a group.

An original sample slide in PowerPoint which contains a flash movie slide.

A range of duplicated slides are created by the tool, showing frames from the flash movie which have been converted to jpeg images.

Rewind all flash movies within the presentation

Click once on the icon and the tool will loop through the presentation slide-by-slide checking for flash movies, then rewind them all to the beginning.

This can be used to manually ensure that all flash movies have the correct starting point before giving a presentation.

To aid usability, the user can use this tool by selecting an individual movie or by simply selecting complete slides. The latter is often required when a movie is hidden under other presentation objects or is part of a group.

  Remove flash movie and macros
Click once on the icon and the tool will loop through the presentation slide by slide checking for flash movies and macros, it will then remove both.

This may be required if you plan to email a copy of a presentation to a client because:

  • The size of embedded flash movies makes it impractical to email them. The movie can be replaced with a static image by first using the static image tool.

  • The presentation contains macros, often connected to flash movie use. It is now common practice for most corporate email servers to reject incoming documents which contain macros, as they maybe harmful or contain viruses.

To aid usability and prevent unintentional deletion, after the user has clicked the icon, they will be warned that the tool will delete all movies and macros and be asked to confirm whether they wish to continue.

Automatic Play-Back
Once the Flash Toolbar has been installed, it will automatically watch all presentations to see whether flash has been used. If so, and the flash movie has not been correctly rewound, it will automatically rewind the flash. This corrects a common  problem/limitation of flash movies not rewinding to their beginning during a presentation, but starting to play from the point at which they were last stopped.

IPowerPoint and Flash – 1 PowerPoint And Flash Index The Inevitable No Direct Ways So, What's ActiveX? A Shockwave Flash Control? Prerequisites
Installing The Control Continued on Page 2...
The Inevitable Does Macromedia Flash compete with Microsoft PowerPoint? True, "PowerPoint couldn't insert a movie from the selected file. Either the file is non-standard, or QuickTime is not installed properly.” Yet, Flash is often used beyond its web boundaries as a multimedia, presentation or a game/quiz tool. PowerPoint has exceeded its limits to create web presentations, multimedia demos and the like. Even then, Flash has no readymade equivalents of PowerPoint's outlines, transitions and bulleted lists. Nor can PowerPoint compete with Flash's output and streaming options. Somewhere down the line, a convergence between Flash and PowerPoint was inevitable. No Direct Ways So, how does one insert a Flash SWF movie into PowerPoint? You cannot insert a Flash SWF using the Insert | Movies & Sounds | Movie From File... command, If you do so, PowerPoint helpfully displays a dialog box detailing: ActiveX is the successor to OLE 1 and OLE 2 - in clear cut, unambiguous terms, that ActiveX is a technology that allows components, clients or controls to run individually integrated in another application.
Actually, importing a Flash movie into PowerPoint uses the ActiveX route - not QuickTime. So, what's ActiveX? Read on... Back So, What's ActiveX? PowerPoint has its own uses, its own following - but Flash is different, yet similar in a way. Conventionally, Flash is a web animation tool and PowerPoint is a premier presentation program. Wonder where QuickTime emerged within the PowerPoint-

To install or update your Shockwave Flash control, all you need to do is to visit the following URL with Internet Explorer and follow instructions.
Secondly, you need to have Internet Explorer installed on your system - this question of course, is only elementary since all recent versions of the Windows operating system have this component installed. Finally, the Macromedia Shockwave Flash ActiveX control needs to be installed. There's even a Macromedia Flash ActiveX control available - in fact if your installation of Internet Explorer is able to play Flash animations, it means you already have it in your system. First, of course is the fact that you need to have PowerPoint to view and/or edit your presentation. Each version of Macromedia Flash gives birth to an updated ActiveX control - and even if the ActiveX control is present on your system, it would be worthwhile to install the latest version. Installing The Shockwave Flash Control If all goes well, your installation of Internet Explorer should be updated with the latest Shockwave Flash ActiveX control in less than 10 minutes on a 33.6 kbps dialup connection (faster on DSL, cable or most other options).

Importing Flash files created with Mix-FX into PowerPoint is a snap. By following these simple steps, you will be up and running in no time at all and impressing all of your visitors with your talents! Step 1: 2. Go to View - Toolbars - Control Toolbox (figure 1) and click on the icon which looks like a little hammer 3. How to insert SWF files into PowerPoint Mix-FX & Power Point: "How to" tutorial
Select "Shockwave Flash Object" (figure 2) from the list
Home | Purchase | Samples | Download | FAQ | Testimonials | About us | Flash tutorials 1. Open up your PowerPoint presentation. Select the page into which you want to insert the animation into
7. Now enter the Movie URL (make sure that you enter the correct path!) and tick the "Embed Movie" box as well 8. Finally, save and run your slide show in presentation view. After you have opened the Control Toolbox you will have an option box on your screen which looks like the one in Figure 2 After you have drawn your animation box you will have something similar to figure 3, a transparent box with 6 white dots representing the 4 corners as well as the top and bottom of the animation. At this point, if the size is not quite right, you can resize the animation. 4. Drag a square onto the place where you want the Mix-FX file to appear 5. After you have done this, right-click on the box, choose properties, and the properties menu will pop up 6. To add the Mix-FX file you must click on "Custom", and select the "Build" icon (the three dots at the end of the line) You now need to edit the properties of your Flash connection! In our case, this program happens to be Microsoft PowerPoint. If you want to learn more about ActiveX, you can visit the following link: A Shockwave Flash Control? We've already established the fact that PowerPoint can accept an ActiveX control, enabling it to run independently within PowerPoint.
The control could be a Shockwave Flash control - the applications are usually web browsers like Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Alternatively they can be any program which has the ability to communicate with an ActiveX control. There are a few prerequisites to playing Flash movies within PowerPoint. There are more than a thousand ready-to-use ActiveX controls available presently, with newer ones being developed regularly. If you add up one plus one to get two, you must have realised where we are heading - we're confirming the fact that a Flash movie can be played within a PowerPoint presentation using its ActiveX control! Prerequisites Flash animation. You will see a white box with an through it on your screen, this is your animation. Right click on the box and then select Properties from the menu (Figure 4). In the example we have chosen PING as our animation and it is located in the root of drive c:, so in the Movie URL we entered C:\ping.swf. We also need to make one other adjustment to our movie in order for it to appear properly: in the Scale section, click on the little down arrow and choose No Border, which will allow your movie to fit properly in the display box. OK, and save it. After you have saved the presentation you can view it. Also be sure to check the Embed Movie option as well otherwise the move will not display correctly when the presentation is moved to another location. There you have it, a nice simple way to add a little extra pizzazz to your presentation!
