Installing PowerPoint Add-ins - An illustrated guide to installing PowerPoint Add-ins. 

To download the tool to your computer, click the download link on the tools web page,
a file dialogue box will appear asking you where to save the file, select the C drive or your work folder.
This will save a zip file to your computer, the zip file contains a single file, a PowerPoint Add-in (.ppa).  

After downloading the zipped file containing the tool, you will need to find the downloaded file
and unzip it, this will extract the enclosed Add-in file (.ppa). 

Once you have unzipped the Add-in file you can load the tool or toolbar into PowerPoint using the
steps shown below.

  Step 1. 
Check your Security settings.

Use the menu command 'Tools/Marco/Security', this will display the Security settings dialogue box.

 

 

  Step 2. 
Set your Security settings.

Set the security settings to Medium or High.

As shown in the image 
to the left.

 
  Step 3. 
Display the Add-In box..

Use the menu command 'Tools/Marco/Add-Ins', this 
will display the Add-ins dialogue box.

 
  Step 4. 
Select and load the Add-In.

Click the Add New button, 
this will display a file dialogue box, navigate to and select 
the Add-in file. 
(e.g. flash_toolbar.ppa, find_tool.ppa, etc.).

Once selected click the OK button and you will see one of the boxes shown in step 5a or step 5b.

 
  Step 5a. 
Select and load the Add-In.

If you see this box appear, then tick the option 'Always trust macros from this publisher', then click the button 'Enable Macros'.

 

  Step 5b. 
Select and load the Add-In.

If you see this box appear, then click the button 'Enable Macros'.

 
 

Step 6. 
Select and load the Add-In.

 

The Add-in should now be listed in the Add-Ins dialogue box, depending on your version of PowerPoint it will have a tick or cross next to the name, to show that Add-in is loaded.

 

At this point you can click the Close button.

 
 

Step 7. 
Using the tool or toolbar.

 

At this point the new tool or toolbar should appear, as shown in the image 
to the left.

 

You can them begin to use the tool or toolbar.

 
 

Troubleshooting 1. 


If the tool or toolbar has already been loaded but it has disappeared.

 

It may simply be that the toolbar has been closed.

 

To manually make the toolbar appear, use the menu command 'View/Toolbar' and select the tool that you wish 
to use.

 

If the tool or toolbar does not appear in this list, then use the option below to check that the tool is loaded correctly.

 
 

Troubleshooting 2. 
 

If the tool or toolbar has already been loaded but it has disappeared.

 

Use the menu command 'Tools/Marco/Add-Ins', this 
will display the Add-ins dialogue box.

 

The Add-in should be listed in the Add-Ins dialogue box, and depending on your version of PowerPoint it should have a tick or cross next to the name, to show that Add-in is loaded.

Select the Add-in you require and then click the 'Unload' button, and then click the 'Load' button. This should reload the Add-in and cause the tool or toolbar to reappear.

If the tool is not in the Add-ins box, repeat the install steps show above.
